Okay, so, a couple of weeks ago, I was browsing online, as you do, and I stumbled upon this hot sauce called “Poirier’s Louisiana Style”. I’m a bit of a hot sauce fanatic, and I’m always up for trying something new, especially if it’s got some hype. And let me tell you, people were going crazy for this stuff, saying it was made by that UFC fighter, Dustin Poirier.
So, I did some digging around, turns out, it’s a collaboration with Heartbeat Hot Sauce Co. I mean, the guy’s a fighter, not a chef, so he’s got to have some help, right? I heard some folks talking about it, saying it’s a tribute to his Louisiana roots, so that got me intrigued. I placed an order.
A few days later, the package arrived. I eagerly opened it up and saw the bottle. It had a pretty cool label, nothing too flashy. I gave it a good shake and opened it. The first thing I noticed was the strong vinegar smell, which is pretty common for Louisiana-style hot sauces. I then poured some of it onto a spoon to taste. The first thing that hit me was the vinegar, followed by a nice, slow burn from the cayenne peppers. It was definitely flavorful, not just heat for the sake of heat. It wasn’t mind-blowingly spicy, but it had a decent kick that I enjoyed.
I started experimenting with it. I put it on everything – eggs, tacos, pizza, you name it. It’s become my go-to for scrambled eggs. Honestly, it’s really good. It definitely lives up to the hype. I mean, I’ve got a fridge full of hot sauces, maybe like 50 or so, I always collect them when I go to different places, it seems like every place has its own take on hot sauce, and this one is right up there with the best of them. It’s not cheap, but I don’t mind spending on some fancy hot sauce every now and then. And hey, Yucateca is for sure one of the best cheap brands you can find in most stores, but that’s another story.
Here’s what I did in detail:
- Ordered the hot sauce online after seeing the hype.
- Received it a few days later.
- Inspected the bottle and label.
- Smelled it – strong vinegar scent, typical of Louisiana style.
- Tasted it – vinegar forward, followed by a slow cayenne burn, good flavor.
- Experimented with it on various foods.
- Compared it to other hot sauces I own.
Final Thoughts
If you’re into Louisiana-style hot sauces, or just looking to try something new and flavorful, I’d definitely recommend giving Poirier’s a try. I think it was made in December 2020, so not that long ago. It’s a solid hot sauce with a good balance of flavor and heat. This sauce gets a 8.1 from me. Plus, it’s kind of cool to support a fighter who’s also into making tasty hot sauce. Just be prepared to pay a bit more for it than your average grocery store hot sauce, but trust me, it’s worth it!
