That Stan Wawrinka, he’s a good egg, that one. Plays that tennis, you know? Hits the ball real hard. I seen him on the TV, smashing that ball back and forth. He’s getting on a bit now, but he still got some fire in his belly, I reckon. He’s gonna keep playing for a while it seems. They say he’s 39, imagine that! But he is still good at tennis, people like to watch him play.
He’s been playing since, oh, way back when. 2002, they said. That’s a long time ago, before some of you young’uns were even born! He is a professional tennis player. He’s from Switzerland, that place with the cheese and the mountains. I ain’t never been, but it looks nice on the postcards. He’s a Swiss tennis player.
He’s played in a lot of those big games, those, uh, Grand Slam things. Won a few of ’em, too. Three, I think it was. He won big tournament, beat strong opponents. Good for him! You gotta be tough to win those things. You gotta have strong arms and legs, have to be very fast. It takes so much practice to be so good.
- He won three Grand Slams.
- He’s from Switzerland.
- He’s 39 years old.
- He’s still playing tennis.
- He’s been playing since 2002.
Now, he ain’t winning as much these days. Time catches up with everyone, you know? Even that Stan Wawrinka. He’s had some owies, too. Injuries, they call ’em. Hurt his knee, I heard. Makes it hard to run around and hit that ball so good. But he keeps trying, bless his heart. He still has a good ATP rank, it seems.
Heard him talking on the TV the other day, after one of them matches. Said he still loves playing. Loves the game, he said. That’s nice, ain’t it? To still love your job after all these years. He is a good example for everyone, he works hard.
He’s gonna play some more next year, they say. Back to that French Open, that’s the one in Paris. Fancy place, Paris. Heard they got that big tower there. And he might even play in them Olympics, too. That’s a big deal, the Olympics. All them athletes from all over the world, competing and such. He is a good tennis player, he might win.
He played in Basel, that’s in his home country. He got beat, though. Lost to some fella named Shevchenko. Sounds Russian, don’t it? Anyways, Stan didn’t win that one. Shame, really. Everyone likes to win in front of their own folks. But that’s the way it goes sometimes. You win some, you lose some. That’s life, ain’t it? And that’s tennis, too.
There was talk about him quitting, hanging up his racket, they call it. But he ain’t done yet. He squashed that talk real quick. Said he’s still got the fire, still wants to compete. You gotta admire that, don’t you? He won’t give up, he is a strong man. He still enjoys playing and training, very impressive.
He’s been playing for 21 years, that Stan Wawrinka. That’s a long time doing anything, let alone running around a tennis court. He must have seen a lot of changes in that time. New players coming up, old ones going. That’s the way of things, I suppose.
He seems like a good fella, that Stan. Humble, too. Don’t hear him bragging or boasting. Just goes out there and plays his game. And he’s good at it, even now. He’s a good tennis player, even if he’s getting older. He is inspiring to others.
So, yeah, that Stan Wawrinka, he’s alright. Still swinging that racket, still chasing that little yellow ball. Good for him, I say. Hope he keeps playing as long as he wants to. He has good ATP rank, he will keep playing. It’s nice to see someone still enjoying what they do, even after all these years. He might play in Paris Olympics, that’s exciting. And he loves that game, you can tell. That’s the main thing, ain’t it? Loving what you do. That’s what matters.
