Alright, guys, let’s talk about making a tier list for Mortal Kombat 9. This was a trip down memory lane, man, firing up MK9 again after all these years! This game was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 systems back in April 2011, a soft reboot of the series.
So, first off, I had to dust off my old PS3 and get the game running. Man, the nostalgia hit me hard. I spent hours just re-familiarizing myself with all the characters, their moves, and their fatalities. Remember those? Brutal!
Getting Down to Business
After getting comfortable with the game again, I started playing matches, lots of them. I tested every character against every other character, and believe me, there are many characters. Noted down their strengths, weaknesses, you know, the whole nine yards. I focused on things like who’s got the best combos, who can zone effectively, who’s a beast up close, and who can shut down the other guy’s game plan.
- Shang Tsung: This guy was always a favorite. After a bunch of matches, I gotta say, he’s still up there in the top tier. His shape-shifting abilities really give him an edge. (165/158).
- Raiden: This guy, the God of Thunder, was another one that I spent a lot of time with. His teleport, his electric fly, all still super strong. I’d say he’s top tier too.(161/154).
- Kung Lao: Okay, this Shaolin monk was a surprise. He’s fast, his combos are deadly, and his hat? Don’t get me started on that hat. I played him a lot and was really impressed. Top tier for sure.(159/152).
- Nightwolf: I always liked Nightwolf, and in MK9, he’s no slouch. His shoulder charge, his reflect, they’re all great tools. I’d say he’s up there in the high tiers.
- Kenshi: Talk about a pro-level character, Kenshi is one of the very best fighters in this game. His spirit samurai summon? That’s a game-changer right there. Seriously powerful stuff.
I spent days doing this, filling up pages and pages of notes, then I began to compile these into a comprehensive tier list. I used the strategy guide’s scores as a starting point, but believe me, I made a lot of tweaks based on my own experience. I also looked at some online tier lists, like the one from Test Your Might, to see what the community thought. Some matched my findings, some didn’t, but hey, that’s the fun of tier lists, right? Everyone’s got their own opinion.
The Final List
Finally, after all that playing, testing, and compiling, I had my tier list. I ended up making a few versions, actually. One based purely on my own experience, one taking into account the strategy guide scores, and one considering the online community’s feedback. It was a blast doing this, and it really made me appreciate how deep and well-balanced MK9 is, even after all these years.
So, there you have it, my journey making an MK9 tier list. It was a lot of work, but a ton of fun. Hope you guys enjoyed the read, and maybe it inspires you to revisit this classic fighting game. Trust me, it’s still got it!
