Well, well, well, folks, you all been hearin’ the buzz ‘round here. Word’s been goin’ ‘round about Jimbo Fisher, the big-time coach, comin’ back to his roots in West Virginia. Now, I ain’t no sports expert, but I reckon some of y’all might be wonderin’ if ol’ Jimbo’s the answer for the Mountaineers’ future. So, I reckon it’s time I put my two cents in and tell ya what I think about all this talk of Jimbo Fisher to WVU.

Jimbo Fisher to WVU: Will the West Virginia Native Make a Comeback as Head Coach?

Now, first thing’s first, Jimbo Fisher ain’t some stranger to West Virginia. He was born in Clarksburg, y’know, right here in this state, back on October 9th, 1965. That’s right, Jimbo’s a true-blue West Virginian. His family called him Jimmy, then J.J., but it was his great aunt who started callin’ him Jimbo, and well, that name stuck with him, didn’t it? Ain’t it funny how them family nicknames always seem to stick around longer than any fancy titles folks get when they go off to do big things?

Now, Jimbo’s been around the block a few times when it comes to coaching. He started out at Florida State, where he did some mighty fine work, even won a national championship back in 2013. But it wasn’t all sunshine and roses there, you see. He ended up headin’ to Texas A&M, where he coached for a good while. But after a few not-so-great seasons and some shaky games, Jimbo was let go in November 2023. So, now the question is, with all that experience behind him, could he be the right man to bring WVU back to glory?

Well, I reckon some folks think he’s the perfect fit. After all, he’s got a lotta experience under his belt. But I gotta tell ya, there’s a big difference between coaching down in Texas and coaching up here in the mountains of West Virginia. Things run a little differently up here, if ya catch my drift.

Now, let’s take a good look at Jimbo’s track record:

  • He was at Florida State for quite a long time and did a good job buildin’ the program up.
  • He won a national championship in 2013, which is no small feat, lemme tell ya.
  • He made his way down to Texas A&M, where he was supposed to take that team to the next level, but things didn’t pan out all that great.
  • He was fired after a disappointing 2023 season, though they did win six of their first ten games. But in college football, six wins ain’t always enough, especially when fans are expectin’ more.

Now, some folks are hopin’ Jimbo Fisher might come back and save the day for WVU, but I gotta say, I’m not so sure. See, a lotta people been talkin’ about this, and it’s been comin’ up all over the place, but when it comes down to it, there ain’t much support for it. Reports say that the chances of Jimbo takin’ over as the Mountaineers’ coach are pretty slim. Even Sports Illustrated put out an answer sayin’ no, Jimbo ain’t the one they’re lookin’ for.

Jimbo Fisher to WVU: Will the West Virginia Native Make a Comeback as Head Coach?

So, what’s the real story here? Could Jimbo be comin’ back home to coach? Well, that’s a question we all gotta wait on. It’s been months since he got the boot from Texas A&M, and while he’s a big name with a lotta experience, things don’t always go the way folks want ‘em to. The truth is, Jimbo’s buyout from Florida State is sittin’ somewhere between $5 million and $7 million, and that’s no small chunk of change. So, if WVU was thinkin’ about bringin’ him on board, they’d have to come up with that kinda money, plus pay for assistants and all that other mess that comes with it.

Now, I know some of y’all might be hopin’ for a miracle, but you’ve got to face facts. Sometimes things just don’t line up like we’d like ‘em to. I reckon WVU’s lookin’ at all their options, and maybe Jimbo ain’t the right one this time around. But that don’t mean we shouldn’t keep an eye on it. After all, stranger things have happened, haven’t they?

In the end, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. College football’s a funny ol’ game, and folks can turn around quicker than a rooster on a sunny day. But right now, it looks like Jimbo Fisher to WVU ain’t in the cards. Who knows, though? Maybe in the future, he’ll be back on the mountain again. Until then, we keep hopin’ for the best for our Mountaineers, no matter who’s callin’ the shots.
