Okay, so I was catching some football highlights the other night. Saw Josh Dobbs playing quarterback. Pretty impressive stuff sometimes, you know, scrambling around, making plays. But something else kinda stood out to me, visually.

I noticed, you know, no hair. Like, none. Scalp, eyebrows, the whole deal. Made me pause for a second. Figured there had to be a reason, right? It wasn’t just a style choice.
Figuring it out
So, curiosity got the better of me. I just went online, typed something simple like ‘josh dobbs no hair’. Didn’t take long at all. Pages popped up talking about alopecia areata. Seems he’s had it for a long time, since he was just a kid in elementary school. Third grade, I think I read somewhere.
Learning the Basics
- Found out it’s an autoimmune thing.
- Basically, the body attacks its own hair follicles.
- It’s not like, contagious or anything people worry about sometimes.
It got me thinking, though. It’s weird how people focus on appearances. Reminds me of this old job I had, years ago. My manager was obsessed with how we kept our desks. Not if the work got done, but if your pens were lined up straight. Total nonsense, right? Drove me nuts. We spent more time worrying about looking busy and neat than actually being productive.
And here’s this guy, Josh Dobbs, playing in the NFL, one of the most scrutinized positions there is. He’s got something super visible like alopecia, can’t hide it even if he wanted to, and he’s just out there doing his job. Doesn’t seem to let it bother him, or at least he handles it incredibly well in front of millions.

Just Getting On With It
I saw some interviews or articles where he talks about it pretty openly. Just matter-of-fact. Seems like he accepted it a long time ago and doesn’t let it define him. Takes a certain kind of strength, I reckon. Especially with all the social media noise these days. People can be rough.
Anyway, that was my little dive into the Josh Dobbs alopecia thing. Just looked it up after seeing him play. The guy is clearly smart – wasn’t he studying aerospace engineering or something crazy like that? And he can sling a football. The alopecia is part of who he is, obviously, but watching him, it feels like just one part of a much bigger picture. Just sharing what I found out.
