Well, howdy there! Let me tell ya somethin’ about these football stadiums, the small ones, you know? I heard tell there’s this one fella, Bowers Stadium, they call it, over in Huntsville, Texas. And wouldn’t ya know it, it’s the smallest darn one in the whole FBS! That’s the Football Bowl Subdivision, if you ain’t in the know. Sounds fancy, but it just means big-time college ball.
They say this Bowers place can only hold about 14,000 folks. Now, that ain’t nothin’ compared to them big city stadiums, but it’s still a whole lotta people if you ask me. Imagine all them folks yellin’ and hollerin’ at a football game! It must get pretty loud, even if it ain’t the biggest place around. They opened this stadium way back in 1986, so it’s been around the block a few times, you see?
Then there’s this other one, Soldier Field, in Chicago. That’s where them Bears play, the professional fellas. It ain’t college ball, but it’s still football, right? Now, that one’s bigger than Bowers, holdin’ around 61,500, but they say it’s the smallest in the whole NFL. That’s the National Football League, the real big boys. Soldier Field is old, real old, built back in the 1920s, to remember them soldiers who fought in the wars. That’s somethin’ special, right?
I also heard tell about this FirstBank Stadium. They say it’s the smallest one in somethin’ called the Southeastern Conference. Sounds important, I reckon. Lots of these stadiums, they all got names after big companies or important people, you know? Like that FirstBank fella, probably gave a whole lotta money for that name.
- Bowers Stadium: 14,000 folks. Smallest in FBS. Huntsville, Texas. Opened in 1986.
- Soldier Field: 61,500 folks. Smallest in NFL. Chicago. Built in the 1920s. Remembers the soldiers.
- FirstBank Stadium: Smallest in the Southeastern Conference. Don’t know how many folks it holds.
There are a whole bunch of other stadiums too, I reckon. Big ones, small ones, all over the place. I saw a list once, it went on forever! Places like Aggie Memorial Stadium in New Mexico, the Alamodome in San Antonio, and even one up in Seattle called Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium. Golly, that’s a mouthful! Seems like every college and every city has got themselves a football stadium these days.
You know, it’s kinda funny, all these places, big and small. They build ’em for folks to watch young fellas runnin’ around with a ball. And people, they love it! They pay good money to sit there and yell and cheer. It’s somethin’ else, I tell ya. It don’t matter if it’s a small place like Bowers or a big one like Soldier Field, as long as there’s good football and maybe some good snacks, folks will be happy.
So, if you ever get the chance to go to a football game, don’t you worry about how big or small the stadium is. Just go and enjoy yourself. It’s about the game and the folks you’re with, not the size of the place. That’s what I always say, anyhow. And remember, that little Bowers Stadium, it might be small, but it’s got a big heart, just like them folks in Texas!
Now, I reckon I’ve told you just about all I know about these small college football stadiums and some of them bigger ones too. It ain’t much, but it’s honest, just like me. So go on now, get yourself to a game sometime, you hear? You won’t regret it. And if you end up in Huntsville, give them folks at Bowers Stadium a holler for me!
