Well, let me tell you about this Kentucky bowl history, you know, the football games they play after the regular season. It’s a whole lot of fuss, but folks seem to like it.
Kentucky Wildcats, yeah, that’s the team. They play for the University of Kentucky, big school, been around a long time. They’re in somethin’ called the Southeastern Conference, bunch of other schools playin’ together. Now, these Wildcats, they’ve been to a whole mess of bowl games, 23 to be exact. That’s a lot of games, I reckon.
For a spell there, from 2006 to 2010, five years in a row, they went to a bowl game every year. Then again, from 2016 all the way to 2023, eight more years, they kept on goin’ to bowls. Folks got real excited, you know, goin’ to these games, cheerin’ and hollerin’.
But winnin’ ain’t everything, they say. And it’s true, ’cause these Wildcats, they ain’t won all them bowl games. Out of those 23 games, they won 12 and lost 11. Kinda like me and my garden, sometimes you get a good crop, sometimes the bugs eat it all up.
- Bowl Record: 23 Bowls, 12 wins, 11 losses. That’s what they say, anyway.
- Average Score: Kentucky scores about 19.9 points, and the other teams score about 20.8 points. Close games, most of ’em.
They played all sorts of teams in these bowls. One time, way back in 1976, they played North Carolina in somethin’ called the Peach Bowl down in Atlanta. Beat ‘em good, 21 to nothin’. That was a shutout, they call it. Then there was this Liberty Bowl in 2009, they beat East Carolina 25 to 19. And just recent, in 2023, they played in the Gator Bowl but lost a close one, 35 to 38. Lost to Iowa in the Music City Bowl too, 21 to nothin’, in 2022. But they won the Citrus Bowl in 2022, beat somebody 20 to 17, can’t remember who.
One time, they even went to the Sugar Bowl, that’s a big deal, I hear. That was the first time they ever went to that one. They had a real good season that year, won 10 games and only lost 1. Won their conference too, that Southeastern Conference I told you about. They’ve only done that twice, won that conference thing.
These bowl games, they’re all over the place. Some are in warm places, like the Rose Bowl, that’s in California, Pasadena they say. Heard it’s real pretty out there. Others are closer to home, you know, down south. Lots of travelin’ for the team and the fans. Always wondered how they find the time, and money, for all that travelin’. Must be nice though, seein’ new places.
Now, I don’t know all the ins and outs of these bowls. They got all sorts of names, like the Gator Bowl, the Citrus Bowl, the Music City Bowl. Hard to keep track of ‘em all, I tell you. But folks get all worked up about ‘em, so I guess they’re important. It’s about more than just football, I reckon. It’s about pride, and community, and havin’ somethin’ to cheer for.
And that’s about all I know about this Kentucky bowl history. A whole lot of games, some wins, some losses, and a whole lot of fuss. But hey, that’s football for ya. Keeps folks entertained, I suppose. Just like my chickens keep me entertained, clucking and pecking all day long. Life’s full of little amusements, ain’t it?
