Alright, let’s talk about this Ladd McConkey fella and his new contract. I heard tell he got himself a pretty penny from them Los Angeles Chargers. Near as I can figure, it’s somethin’ close to ten million dollars over four years. That’s a whole lotta dough, y’know?
Now, they say he got this “signing bonus.” Sounds fancy, but it just means they give him a big chunk of money right off the bat. They’re sayin’ it’s over four million dollars! Can you imagine? That’s more money than most folks see in a lifetime.
- Four years, they say. That’s a long time to be playin’ that football game.
- And every year, he gets a “salary.” That’s like his regular pay, y’know? This year, he’s gonna get somethin’ like eight hundred thousand dollars.
- Next year it goes up, and the year after that, and so on. By the time he’s done, he’ll be makin’ over two million dollars just for that last year.
I ain’t never seen that much money. Shoot, back in my day, we worked our fingers to the bone just to put food on the table. But these young fellas, they go and play a game and get paid more than a king’s ransom. Well, good for him, I guess. He must be pretty good at catchin’ that ball, or whatever it is they do.
They say this contract is the biggest ever for someone picked where he was in the draft. Somethin’ about bein’ the 34th pick. I guess that means he’s better than a whole lot of other fellas who wanted to play in the big leagues. And the Chargers, they must really want him on their team. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be givin’ him all that money.
This McConkey kid, he went to the University of Georgia, I hear. Only place that wanted him, really, from the big schools. But he must’ve done somethin’ right, ’cause now he’s a Charger, and he’s got more money than he knows what to do with, probably.
People are talkin’ about how much of the money is “guaranteed.” That just means they gotta pay him that much, no matter what. Even if he gets hurt or somethin’, they still gotta give him his money. It’s a good deal for him, that’s for sure. He don’t have to worry about nothin’ but playin’ that football game.
I heard some folks sayin’ he’s gonna make almost ten million dollars over those four years. That’s a lot of money, I tell ya. And they say that is the most guaranteed money for a player at the thirty-fourth pick in the draft. He even beat out some of them quarterback fellas. That McConkey must be one heck of a player. I don’t know much about football, but even I can tell that is a lot of money.
Now, some folks might say he ain’t worth all that money. They might say it’s too much for a game. But I reckon if someone’s willin’ to pay it, and someone’s willin’ to play for it, then that’s their business. It ain’t hurtin’ me none. And who knows, maybe he’ll do some good with all that money. Maybe he’ll help folks out, or start a business, or somethin’. Or maybe he’ll just buy himself a fancy car and a big house. It’s his money, he can do what he wants with it.
Anyway, that’s the long and short of it. Ladd McConkey, he’s a Charger now, and he’s got a big contract. Ten million dollars, give or take. That’s enough to make anyone’s head spin. I just hope he doesn’t go and waste it all. He should invest in some farmland. That’s the only thing that lasts.
