Alright folks, let me tell you about this crossword clue I wrestled with today: “lead in to meter.” Sounds simple, right? Wrong!

First thought: My brain immediately jumped to musical stuff. Meter in music, duh. So I started thinking about introductions, preludes, you know, things that “lead in” to the main beat.
I spent a solid ten minutes scribbling down possibilities. “Intro,” “Upbeat,” “Countin,” all the usual suspects. But nothing fit the number of letters. Grrr!
Second Attempt: Scrapped the music idea. Maybe it’s some technical jargon I don’t know? I started Googling “meter” related to things like electricity, gas… you name it. Found a whole bunch of stuff about measurements and units. Still nothing clicked.
Aha! Moment: Then it hit me. Crosswords are sneaky. “Meter” could also mean a device that measures something. Like, a taxi meter! What “leads in” to a taxi meter starting?
The Solution: BAM! “Dropin.” As in, you “drop in” the money to start the meter in a taxi. It fit the length, made sense in the context of the other clues, and I felt like a genius for figuring it out. Seriously, that was a good feeling.

Lessons Learned:
- Don’t overthink it. Sometimes the most obvious meaning is the right one, even if you try to find a more obscure answer.
- Consider all possible meanings of a word, even if you think you know what it is.
- Take a break. Sometimes stepping away for a few minutes helps you see things in a new light.
So yeah, that’s the story of my battle with the “lead in to meter” crossword clue. Hope you enjoyed my rambling account. Until next time, happy puzzling!
