Getting into Linn Grant’s Game
Alright, so I spend a fair bit of time watching golf, maybe too much some would say. You see a lot of players, tons of talent out there. For a while, Linn Grant was just another name I’d see scroll past on the leaderboard. Didn’t really register much at first, you know? Just another player grinding it out.
My “practice” with understanding her game really kicked off, I guess, when I started hearing more buzz. It wasn’t just seeing the name, but people were talking. Then came that tournament, the Scandinavian Mixed thing back in ’22. I remember tuning in, not really expecting much, maybe catching some highlights.
But then she went and won it. Not just won her category, won the whole damn thing. Against the guys on the DP World Tour. That made me stop. Okay, hold on. That’s not something you see every day, or really, ever. That was the point I thought, “Right, I need to actually pay attention here.”
Digging Deeper – The Observation Phase
So, I started actively looking for her rounds, catching clips when I could. My practice became watching how she played. And a few things jumped out pretty quick:
- That swing. Man, it just looks so smooth, almost effortless. You see a lot of players really muscling the ball, but hers seemed different. Fluid. Gets plenty of power out of it too, which is the crazy part.
- Her composure. Watching her, she just seems calm. Doesn’t seem to get too high or too low. In golf, that’s huge. Keeping level-headed when things go sideways is half the battle.
- Playing everywhere. Saw she was playing LET, then LPGA stuff too. Takes some doing, bouncing between tours like that. Shows she can adapt her game.
It wasn’t like I was taking notes like a coach or anything. Just watching. Seeing the shots, seeing how she handled different situations. You sort of build up a picture in your head. It’s like figuring out why a certain tool works well – you just use it, or in this case, watch it being used, and it clicks.
Final Thoughts So Far
So yeah, that’s been my process with Linn Grant. Started as just another name, then that big win forced me to really look. Watching her play, seeing that swing and her cool head, you get why people are excited. It wasn’t some complicated analysis, just watching the game and seeing something that stood out. She’s definitely got something interesting going on. Definitely keeping an eye on where she goes from here. Simple as that, really. Just watching the game unfold.
