Okay, so I decided I needed something different for my ACNH island setup. Storage is always a hassle, right? And I wanted a spot to kinda show off some of the cooler tools and items I’d gathered, not just dump ’em in house storage. That’s how the idea for this ‘gear tower’ thing started brewıng.

Getting Started – The Grind
First off, I had to figure out what I even meant by a ‘gear tower’. It wasn’t like there’s a specific recipe called that. I scrolled through my known DIYs, looking for something tall-ish, maybe a bit industrial or rustic looking. The Silo DIY caught my eye, but it wasn’t quite right. Then I remembered seeing some folks use customized Simple Panels or even stacked items.
I decided to go for a mix. I needed a base structure. I thought maybe some stacked log furniture? Nah, too clunky. I settled on trying to build something using a combination of items. The real grind began with gathering materials. Man, chopping wood… endlessly. Needed tons of regular wood, some softwood, and definitely iron nuggets. You know how it is, smacking rocks hoping for iron and getting mostly stone and clay. Classic.
- Chopped so many trees. My poor axe.
- Visited a bunch of Nook Miles Ticket islands hoping for better rock spawns. Mixed results, mostly annoying wasps.
- Traded some spare DIYs with a friend to get the last few iron nuggets I was short on.
Putting it Together
Alright, materials gathered. Phase two: crafting and placement. I decided to use a couple of Stall items, customized with a sort of metallic pattern I found online. I crafted two of those first. Finding the perfect spot took ages. I flattened a small area near my workshop space, wanting it to look functional.
I placed the two Stalls back-to-back, kinda forming a thicker base. Then, the tricky part. I wanted height. I ended up crafting a few Wooden Boxes and customizing them to look like old crates. I carefully placed these on top of the stalls. It was fiddly getting the positioning just right so it didn’t look like it would fall over immediately.
To top it off, I used one of those Throwback Containers. Customized it to a rusty color. Looked pretty decent, actually. Gave it that ‘tower’ feel I was aiming for.

The ‘Gear’ Part
Now for the fun bit – decorating it with ‘gear’. This wasn’t about efficiency; it was pure looks. I wanted it to look like a place where tools and supplies were kept.
What I put on it:
- A spare Axe and Shovel, placed using the ‘display here’ option.
- Some stacks of materials like hardwood and iron nuggets, just sitting on the surfaces.
- A lantern for that nighttime glow.
- One of those Oil Barrels on the side.
- Even stuck a Rusted Part on one of the crates, like it just fell off something.
I messed around with the arrangement for probably half an hour. Moving the shovel an inch to the left, swapping the axe position, you know how it goes. Trying to get that perfect ‘organized mess’ vibe.
Final Thoughts
So, yeah. That’s the story of my ACNH gear tower. It took way longer than I expected, mostly because of the material grind and me being picky about placement. Does it actually do anything useful? Nope. Not really. It’s pure decoration. But hey, it fills that space nicely, fits the vibe I wanted for that part of my island, and it was kinda satisfying seeing it come together from random parts.
It’s not perfect, might tweak it later if I find cooler items. But for now, it stands there, my little monument to needing more iron nuggets. Totally worth it. Makes the island feel a bit more lived-in, you know?
