Okay, so I’ve been following this whole Zach Edey situation, and it’s got me scratching my head. The dude’s a beast at Purdue, right? Totally dominated college ball. But then you look at these NBA mock drafts, and he’s all over the place. One site had him at number 12, another at 25, and I even saw some people saying he might slip to the second round.
So, I did what any rational person would do: I dove into the internet, of course. I spent hours reading articles, watching highlights, and even lurking in some Reddit threads. And let me tell you, it’s a wild ride. There are some pretty strong opinions out there about this guy.
The main thing I kept seeing was that the NBA is all about athleticism these days. They want their big men to be able to switch on defense, guard multiple positions, and run the floor like a gazelle. And apparently, some folks think Edey doesn’t quite fit that mold. They say he’s a bit slow, not super agile, and might struggle to keep up with the pace of the NBA game. One article I read compared him to another prospect, Clingan, and said Clingan could “get up more and also recover better” than Edey.
- The Ringer had him at 12.
- Yahoo Sports had him at 25.
- Another guy said Edey couldn’t “get out and contest shooters.”
So then I decided to check out some of these mock drafts for myself. I found this one site that listed the whole draft order. Apparently, the Pistons and Wizards were at the top, but the Pistons had dropped down three years in a row. I had no idea what that was, but that was the most common response people gave me online.
But then you’ve got the other side of the coin. People are saying this draft class isn’t exactly stacked with talent, and Edey’s stock has actually gone up because of it. Some are even saying he could be a lottery pick. A lottery pick! That’s crazy, right?
My Final Take
After all this digging, I’m still not sure what to think. Edey’s a proven winner, and he’s got the size and skills to be a force in the paint. But the NBA’s a different beast. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it all plays out. It’s definitely one of the more interesting storylines heading into the draft, that’s for sure. I even found one article that called him one of the “most polarizing prospects” in the class. And from what I’ve seen, that’s spot on. It seems like people either love him or they don’t, there’s not much in between. I’m gonna keep following his story, though. It’s too interesting not to.
