Alright, so I wanted to get a handle on what Jordan Thompson might do next time he steps on the court. It’s always a bit of a guessing game, right? But I like to try and figure things out beforehand.

My Process for Figuring Out Thompson
First thing I did was check the schedule. Who’s he actually playing? Or if it’s a tournament draw, who’s potentially in his path? Gotta know the context. Let’s say I found his next opponent.
Next, I just started digging into Thompson’s recent matches. How’s he been looking? You know, you can tell a lot just by the scores and who he played. I went back maybe five or six matches.
- Recent Wins/Losses: I jotted down who he beat and who beat him. Was it a close match? Did he get wiped off the court? That stuff matters.
- Consistency: Was he winning consistently or was it up and down? Sometimes a guy gets hot, sometimes cold.
Then, obviously, I had to do the same for his opponent. Can’t just look at one side of the net. Same deal – checked their recent results, tried to get a feel for their current form.
Head-to-Head: This is usually pretty important. I looked up if Thompson and this guy had played before. Sometimes you see a pattern. Maybe Thompson owns the guy, or maybe it’s the other way around. Found their past results, noted the scores and, crucially, the surface.
Surface Check: You absolutely have to look at the court surface. Grass, clay, hard court – Thompson plays differently on each, just like everyone else. I checked his record on whatever surface this next match was on. Did the same for the opponent. Some guys are wizards on clay but average on hard courts, you know?

I also took a quick peek at the rankings. Doesn’t mean everything, rankings can be slow to catch up with form, but it gives you a general idea. Still part of the picture.
After gathering all that, I kind of just let it sit for a bit. Tried to weigh things.
- Thompson’s form vs Opponent’s form.
- Head-to-head history.
- How much the surface favors one guy over the other.
- Any little bits of news? Travel fatigue? Playing in his home country? Sometimes that stuff gives an edge.
It’s not an exact science, obviously. A lot of it is just piecing together the clues you found. Sometimes your gut tells you something too, based on watching players over the years.
So, after running through all that – checking the stats, comparing the players, thinking about the conditions – I finally landed on my prediction. Felt like I’d done my homework, at least. That’s basically how I went about trying to predict what Jordan Thompson would do. Just a process of digging around and putting the pieces together.
