Right then, had a look at this Egypt versus New Zealand fixture coming up. It’s one of those matches you see on the list and think, “Okay, how’s this likely to shake out?” Didn’t go super deep, you know, not like I’m crunching numbers all day, but I did my usual routine.

First off, I just think about the teams generally. Egypt, playing at home usually makes a difference for them. Big crowds, familiar surroundings. And obviously, you can’t ignore Mohamed Salah. Even if he’s not scoring, he draws so much attention, opens things up for others. That’s always the first thing that pops into my head with Egypt.
Then I did a quick check, just browsed around online a bit. See if there’s any major news. Anyone injured? How did their last couple of games go? Didn’t find anything massive, seemed like both teams should have their main guys available, more or less. New Zealand had that long trip, that’s always something to consider, how teams travel.
Looking at Egypt
So for Egypt, like I said, home advantage is big. They tend to be pretty organized, especially defensively, when they play in Cairo. They don’t usually concede a lot in these types of games. The question is always about scoring. Sometimes they rely heavily on Salah’s magic. If he’s marked out of the game or has an off day, they can look a bit stuck trying to find goals from elsewhere. But you’d expect them to have most of the ball and push the game.
And New Zealand?
New Zealand, they’re always a bit of an unknown quantity for teams outside their region. Solid group, usually well-drilled, physically strong. They work hard, you know they’ll put in a shift. They probably won’t have loads of possession, will look to stay compact and maybe hit on the break or from set pieces. They don’t have the star power Egypt does, obviously, but sometimes that team spirit counts for a lot. You can’t just write them off.
So, the Prediction Bit
Putting it all together in my head… it’s tricky. International friendlies, or these mini-tournaments like this ACUD Cup thing, can be unpredictable. Teams might experiment, managers might try new players or tactics. It’s not like a World Cup qualifier where everything’s on the line.

But gut feeling? I have to lean towards Egypt.
- Home soil is a big plus.
- They have the standout player in Salah.
- New Zealand’s long travel might play a part.
I don’t expect a thrashing, though. New Zealand will likely make it tough. I’m thinking maybe a narrow win for Egypt. Something like 1-0 or maybe 2-0 feels about right in my mind. It feels like the kind of game Egypt should control, even if they don’t blow the doors off.
Of course, football’s funny. You make these predictions, feel all confident, and then some totally unexpected result happens. Watched enough games to know that! That’s why we watch, I suppose. But yeah, based on my quick look and usual process, Egypt gets the nod from me for this one. Just my take on it.
