Okay, so today I decided to get back on the court and work on my game, inspired by Marty Richter. I haven’t seriously played in a while, so I knew it would be a bit rough. But hey, everyone starts somewhere, right?

Getting Started
First things first, I headed to my local park. It’s got a decent court, usually not too crowded. I brought my old basketball, the one that’s seen better days, but it still bounces okay.
I started with some basic warm-ups. You know, the usual stuff:
- Jogging around the court
- Stretching my arms and legs
- Some light dribbling drills
I felt a little stiff at first, my muscles were definitely complaining, but after about 15 minutes, I started to loosen up.
Shooting Practice
Then, I moved on to shooting. I figured I’d start close to the basket and gradually work my way out. I focused on my form, really trying to remember what Marty Richter always emphasized – keep your elbow in, follow through, and use your legs.
My first few shots were…well, let’s just say they weren’t pretty. Airballs, bricks, you name it. But I kept at it, trying to adjust my aim and power with each shot. It’s like my body was trying to remember the feeling of shooting correctly.

After a while, I started to find a rhythm. More shots were going in, and my confidence grew. I even managed to sink a few from beyond the free-throw line!
Dribbling Drills
Next, I worked on my dribbling. Again, I kept it simple:
- Low dribbles, focusing on control
- Crossovers, trying to keep the ball close to my body
- Behind-the-back dribbles (these were tough!)
My handles were definitely rusty. The ball got away from me a few times, and I almost tripped over my own feet more than once. But the more I practiced, the better I felt.
Cooling Down
Finally, I finished up with some more stretching and light jogging. I was tired, sweaty, and my muscles were definitely sore, but I felt great. It was good to be back on the court, working on my game.
I realized that I need to keep to do this more.
