Okay, so I’ve been seeing those “laments crossword” thingies pop up all over my socials, and I finally decided to give one a shot. I mean, I like words, and I like puzzles, so it seemed like a no-brainer, right?

First, I googled “laments crossword” to even figure out what the heck it was. I Found a few different websites where I am able to create my own crossword.
I picked a website, and then it hit me: I had to actually think of * shows a blank crossword grid. I stared at it for a good five minutes, feeling totally blank.
I started with some easy ones, things like:
- “A sad song” (LAMENT, obviously).
- “Opposite of happy” (SAD).
- “What you do when you miss someone” (YEARN).
I slowly filled in the grid, one word at a * took me a while, moving back and forth, to find the fittable word for the grid.
After I completed all the grids with proper *, I began to write down all the * are easy, but some are tricky.

Honestly, it was way more fun than I expected! And also kind of therapeutic, in a weird way. Like, taking all those feelings of sadness and turning them into something…constructive?
My takeaways?
- Don’t underestimate the power of a good *, it’s a lifesaver.
- Start with the easy clues. It builds momentum.
- It’s okay to get stuck. Just walk away for a bit and come back later.
- Sharing them is half the fun!
I’m definitely gonna make another one of these.
