Well, let me tell ya, this here MLB The Show 23, it’s got all sorts of ways to play. And these young folks, they talk about this “ranked” thing. Sounds fancy, don’t it? But it ain’t that hard to figure out, not really. If you are just starting, you can use that “Dynamic” setting and the “Casual” style. I think that will be good.
This game, they say it can teach ya about the sport. I guess you could learn somethin’, even at my age. They got these sticks you gotta use, gotta get ’em just right to hit that ball. They call it “zone hitting” or somethin’ like that. Means you gotta watch close and move that little thing around to where the ball’s comin’.
Now, they got these levels, see? Like, uh, “Rookie”. That’s for the new folks, the ones just startin’ out. It ain’t too hard, they say. Then there’s this “Veteran”, you know, if you played some, that is between 0-199. If you are at 200-699, that’s “All-Star”. My oh my, that sounds important. Then “HOF”, which is 700-899. So many levels. And they say each one of these is harder than the last. They say it’s good to start easy. You can always make it harder later, when you get the hang of it.
I heard some folks talkin’, sayin’ the difficulty depends on who you’re playin’ against. If you play a good player, your difficulty will be higher. If you play under 700, that is All-Star. If they’re better than you, then it’s gonna be tougher. It’s like when I used to play cards with old Mildred – she was a real shark, that one. Always had to be on my toes!
- Rookie – Easy peasy, good for startin’ out.
- Veteran – A little harder, for when you know a bit more.
- All-Star – Now we’re talkin’! This is for the real players.
- Hall of Fame – This is the top, only the best of the best.
- Legend – Even harder, I guess. Can’t imagine.
Some folks, they want just one way to play, one level for everyone. But that’s like sayin’ everyone should wear the same size shoes, don’t make no sense. SDS should focus on timing, I think. You gotta swing just right. And you know what, if you are strugglin’ to play, you can practice. If you are strugglin’ on All-Star, you can practice one level higher. If you are not good at it, just try and try.
MLB The Show 23 ranked difficulty, it ain’t so bad once you get used to it. Just gotta find what works for you. It’s like findin’ the right settin’ on that old radio – gotta fiddle with it a bit to get it just right. Don’t be afraid to try different things.
And don’t you worry too much about winnin’ all the time. Just have fun with it. That’s what these games are for, ain’t they? To have a little fun. It’s like plantin’ seeds in the garden – you ain’t gonna get a prize-winnin’ tomato every time, but you still enjoy the process, right?
So there you have it. That’s all I know about this MLB The Show 23 and this “ranked” business. It ain’t rocket science, just a game. And games are supposed to be fun. Don’t let all these fancy words scare ya. It is not hard. You can play, too. Just remember what I said. Start easy, find what you like, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. There’s always someone willin’ to lend a hand, even to an old lady like me. And have a good time. That is most important. Don’t forget about having fun.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I think I hear my soap opera comin’ on. Gotta go see what kind of trouble those folks are gettin’ into today. Maybe I will try this game later. Good luck, and have fun playing!
