Okay, so I wanted to get better at MLB The Show 24, especially with pitching. I’ve been getting shelled lately, and my friend told me it’s all about picking the right pitches. So, I decided to dive in and figure out what the heck works.

First, I started a game in “Play Now” mode just to mess around. I didn’t want any pressure, just a sandbox to try stuff out.
Experimenting with Different Pitches
I picked a pitcher with a bunch of different pitches – I think it was someone with a 4-seam fastball, a sinker, a cutter, a curveball, and a changeup. The common stuff. Then I just started throwing everything.
- 4-Seam Fastball: This one’s your basic heater, right? I noticed it’s good for getting ahead in the count, especially up in the zone. But if you leave it over the middle, ouch, home run city.
- Sinker: This thing is nasty when it’s working. I tried to aim it low and inside, and it got some good ground balls. But it’s a bit tougher to control than the 4-seamer.
- Cutter: This one’s supposed to break away from right-handed hitters (if you’re a righty pitcher). I found it’s good for jamming guys and getting weak contact.
- Curveball: The classic “Uncle Charlie.” I learned that throwing this one in the dirt is a good way to get swings and misses, especially after a fastball.
- Changeup: This is all about messing with the hitter’s timing. I realized you gotta sell it like a fastball, then it just drops off the table. Great for strikeouts if you set it up right.
I spent a good hour just throwing pitches, paying attention to where they ended up and what the hitters did. It wasn’t about striking everyone out, more about seeing the ball flight and the break.
Putting it All Together
After messing around, I started to get a feel for how to sequence pitches. Like, maybe I’d start with a fastball up, then a sinker down and in, then maybe a changeup or a curveball to get them off balance. It’s like a little chess match.
Then,I started my ranking game, and I did much better!

It’s still a work in progress, but I definitely improved by just taking the time to experiment. I am still learning new things everyday.I’ll keep practicing and see if I can finally stop giving up so many dingers!
