Okay, so yesterday, I tried out this thing called the “Modified Pinehurst” format in golf. Never heard of it before, but it sounded interesting, so I gave it a shot with my buddy, Mark. We headed to the local course, and let me tell you, it was a bit of a head-scratcher at first, but we figured it out as we went along.
Here’s how it went down: we both teed off, just like in a regular game. But then, it got a little different. We each played our second shots using the other person’s ball. So, Mark hit my drive, and I hit his. After that, we picked the ball that was in the best position. Sounded simple enough, right?
- We discussed which ball was better after our second shots.
- We decided on the plan together.
Once we selected the “best” ball, we started playing alternate shots until we sank the ball in the hole. So, for example, if we chose Mark’s ball after the second shot, I would hit the third shot, then he’d take the fourth, and so on. This part was kind of tricky because we really had to think about strategy. It wasn’t just about hitting the ball as far as you could.
A Little Confusing at First
I’ll admit, the first few holes were a bit rough. We weren’t really sure whose turn it was sometimes, and we definitely made some questionable choices on which ball to play. But, we kept at it and started to get the hang of it. We even had a few laughs about our mess-ups. And we talked about our strategy.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
By the back nine, we were starting to feel like a real team. We communicated better, and we actually made some pretty good shots using this format. It was cool to see how our different playing styles could complement each other. This format really forced us to work together and think about the game in a new way.
We finally finished the round, it was a good time. Overall, I’d say the Modified Pinehurst format is a fun and challenging way to play golf with a partner. It’s not something I’d do every time, but it’s definitely worth trying if you’re looking for something different. Just make sure you and your partner are on the same page, or you might end up in the rough more often than not! We had fun and decided to play this way again sometime.
