Okay, so I was staring at this blank page, right? Thinking, “Who do I even draft?” It’s fantasy football season, and my league is super competitive. Last year, I came in dead last. Dead. Last. This year, I was determined to do better, so I started to think on this draft seriously.

First thing I did? I grabbed a beer. Gotta have a clear head, you know? Then I pulled up, like, five different fantasy football websites. I’m talking expert rankings, cheat sheets, articles about sleepers and busts… the whole nine yards. My desk looked like a sports analytics command center.
Research, Research, Research
- ESPN: Always a solid starting point.
- Yahoo Sports: I like their interface, it’s easy on the eyes.
- Some random blog: Gotta get those “under the radar” picks, right?
I spent, I kid you not, hours poring over this stuff. I made a list of players I liked, players I hated, and players I was kinda “meh” about. Then I started digging deeper.
I watched some game highlights. Look at their past performance, not just last season, but the season before that too. Are they trending up? Down? Are they injury-prone? Did their team make any major changes in the off-season that might affect their performance?
I started thinking about my league’s scoring system. Is it standard? PPR (points per reception)? Do we get bonus points for long touchdowns? That kind of stuff really matters when you’re deciding between two similar players.
Mock Drafts are your Friends
After all that research, I felt…slightly less clueless. But I still needed practice. So, I jumped into some mock drafts online. I think I did, five mock drafts. It’s the best way to test different strategies and see how the draft board might fall.

One mock draft, I went heavy on running backs early. Another, I waited on quarterbacks. I even tried one where I just picked the highest-ranked player available, no matter the position. (That one didn’t go so well.)
By the end,I am feeling a little more confident now. I’ve got my list of target players, I’ve got a general strategy, and I’ve seen how things can play out in a few different scenarios. I actually have a good feeling and that I am ready, so bring on the draft! Wish me luck,I will update everyone after draft day.
