Okay, so I’ve been trying to get a really solid handle on the Illini football team’s depth chart. It’s not always easy to find accurate, up-to-date info, so I figured I’d do some digging and share what I found, kind with my own process.

Starting My Search
First, I just started by hitting up the usual spots – the official team website, fan forums, sports news sites, that kind of thing. It was a mix of stuff, some of it outdated, some of it conflicting. Gotta love the internet, right?
Gathering and Comparing Notes
I started pulling together bits and pieces from different sources. I’d jot down names I saw listed for various positions, especially the key ones like quarterback, running back, and the defensive line. It was kind of like putting together a puzzle, comparing different “expert” opinions and seeing where they lined up and where they didn’t.
The Tough Spots
Some positions were way easier to figure out than others. Like, the starting quarterback was pretty obvious from all the articles and buzz. But then you get to, say, the backup linebacker spots, and suddenly it’s a whole lot murkier. That’s where those fan forums came in handy – sometimes you get some real insider info from people who follow the team super closely.
My “A-ha!” Moment
I hit a point where I had a pretty decent list, but I was still feeling unsure about a few spots. Then I found a game recap that actually mentioned a couple of specific players who came in as subs during the game. Bingo! That helped me confirm a couple of my guesses and fill in a few more blanks.
Putting It All Together
Finally, I organized everything I had into my own little spreadsheet. It’s nothing fancy, just a simple list of positions and the players I felt most confident about, based on my research. It’s not perfect, and it’ll probably change as the season goes on, but it’s a heck of a lot better than what I started with!

This is my current Illini depth chart:
- QB: Luke Altmyer
- RB1: Reggie Love III
- RB2: Josh McCray
- WR1: Isaiah Williams
- WR2: Pat Bryant
- TE: Tip Reiman
I think I have to organize the defense positions next time.
It was definitely a bit of a process, but hey, that’s part of the fun of being a sports fan, right? Now I feel like I’m actually ready to watch the next game and know who’s who on the field.
