Hey everyone, it’s your boy back at it again, and let me tell you, I had a doozy of a day out on the greens. I finally got around to playing the Olympia Fields South Course, and boy, was it an experience.
First off, I woke up bright and early, got myself a hearty breakfast, and headed out to the course. The drive there was pretty chill, just jamming to some tunes and getting myself pumped up for the round. Pulled up to the course, and right away, you could feel this was a serious place. I mean, this course has hosted some big-time tournaments, so I knew I was in for a challenge.
I checked in at the pro shop, grabbed my scorecard, and met up with my buddies who I was playing with. We hit a few balls on the driving range to warm up. It felt like my swing was way off. It took some time until I could hit the ball decently. Then we made our way over to the first tee.
Now, this South Course, it’s not your average weekend track. The fairways are narrow, the rough is thick, and the greens are slicker than ice. I teed off on the first hole, a par 4, and immediately sliced my drive into the trees. Not the start I was hoping for, but hey, that’s golf, right?
- Struggled my way through the front nine, carding a few bogeys and even a double.
- I did manage to sink a nice birdie putt on the par-3 seventh, which was a highlight.
- The back nine was a bit better, I started finding my rhythm and hitting some better shots.
- Finished with a respectable score, all things considered.
After the round, we grabbed some beers at the clubhouse and rehashed the day. We laughed about the bad shots and celebrated the good ones. It was a tough day on the course, but definitely a memorable one. I learned a lot about my game and what I need to work on.
All in all, playing the Olympia Fields South Course was a real test. It’s a beautiful course, but it will definitely challenge every aspect of your game. If you ever get the chance to play it, make sure you bring your A-game, and maybe a few extra balls, just in case. Until next time, keep it in the short grass, folks!
