Okay, so, I got into this whole Paulino Santana thing today. You know, the baseball player? The guy’s a minor leaguer for the Texas Rangers, plays center field and left field. Pretty standard stuff, right?
First, I just started with a simple search. Nothing fancy, just wanted to get the basics. Turns out, he’s a righty, both batting and throwing. Dude’s 6’2″, 180 pounds, born on November 17th, I put those stats down and moved on.
Then, I dug a little deeper. Found out the Rangers signed him as a free agent. Makes sense, he’s a solid player. He got assigned to the DSL Rangers Blue, which is their Dominican Summer League team. I made a note of that, too, adding some tags such as “Major League Baseball” to my notes, trying to keep track of it all.
Next, I wanted to see his stats. You know, batting averages, that kind of thing. Found a couple of sites that had his career stats for both Major and Minor Leagues. I started jotting down those numbers, getting a better picture of his performance. The numbers are .292/.468/.377, and I feel like I am really getting somewhere.
But I wanted more, I was curious about his background. Turns out, he’s ranked number 2 in some 2024 international rankings. He’s from the Dominican Republic and signed for around $1,297. I marked that down, too. It’s always interesting to see where these guys come from.
I also stumbled upon this “player page” for him. It had everything: biography, draft info, even salary and transactions. I copied down most of it, feeling like I was really getting somewhere.
Then there was this weird part. Some site mentioned there wasn’t an “outlook” written for him in 2025, which I thought was odd. It also mentioned some more recent stats, which I added to my notes, just in case. These are some “Fantasy” tags, and I really feel that they do not belong here, so I crossed them out.
It wasn’t all about baseball, though. I got sidetracked with this whole URL encoding thing. I was trying to figure out how to convert encoded URLs back to their original form. I found a task description about it, but it wasn’t super helpful, it just confused me, so I moved on.
Then, I went down a rabbit hole of Linux commands. Found this cheat sheet with examples. I started going through them, trying to understand each one. It was a lot, but I managed to pick up a few new commands. I do not know why, but I started memorizing flashcards of binary formats and some words like “CodePlex”.
- First, the basic details and stats of Santana.
- Then, his signing with the Texas Rangers.
- Followed by his career stats.
- Next, his background and ranking.
- Diverted a bit into URL encoding, but got back on track.
- Finally, ended up learning some Linux commands.
So yeah, that was my day. From baseball stats to Linux commands, it was a wild ride. But hey, I learned a lot, and that’s what matters, right?
And that is all, just wanted to share my little adventure with you guys. It is a bit messy, but it is all real.
