Alright, let’s talk about this fella, Paxton Lynch. He’s a football player, you know, the kind that throws the ball around. Big fella, strong arm, that’s what they all say.
I saw some of his plays, they call ’em highlights. Boy, he could throw that ball far! Like, real far. Made me think of chuckin’ rocks at them pesky crows back on the farm. Only this rock was a football, and them crows were… well, I guess they were the other fellas tryin’ to catch it.
They say he played for the Denver Broncos. That’s a big team, I hear. Lots of fancy folks watchin’ them play. He was a quarterback, the one who calls the plays and throws the ball most of the time. Sounded important, like the rooster in the hen house, gotta keep everyone in line.
- He played in college too, at Memphis. Did good there, I reckon. Otherwise, them Broncos wouldn’t have picked him, right?
- Then he went to the Seattle Seahawks, I think. And the Pittsburgh Steelers too. Bounced around a bit, like a tumbleweed in the wind.
- He even went up to Canada, played for some team with a long name, Saskatchewan Roughriders, somethin’ like that. Cold up there, I bet. Makes you wonder why a fella would go all that way to play football.
- And then back down here, played for the Michigan Panthers in some new league, USFL. Lots of places, this fella played. Musta been lookin’ for the right fit, like findin’ the right pair of shoes. Sometimes you gotta try on a few before you find the ones that don’t pinch your toes.
People talk about his “potential.” That’s a fancy word for what he could do, not always what he did do. He had a strong arm, like I said, could throw that ball a country mile. But football ain’t just about throwin’ far. You gotta be smart, gotta be quick, gotta know what them other fellas are gonna do before they do it. Like playin’ checkers, always thinkin’ a few moves ahead.
I saw some videos, they called ’em interviews. He seemed like a nice young man, polite and all. But football ain’t about bein’ nice, it’s about winnin’. And winnin’ ain’t always easy, even if you can throw a ball farther than anyone else.
They got all these stats and numbers, talkin’ ’bout completion percentage and yards per carry and all that. Confusin’ stuff, if you ask me. I just look at it simple. Did he win? Did he make the plays when it mattered? That’s what counts, like gettin’ the hay in before the rain comes. Don’t matter how fancy your tractor is if the hay gets wet.
So, this Paxton Lynch, he had his moments. He had the talent, that’s for sure. But for whatever reason, it didn’t all come together. Maybe it was bad luck, maybe it was somethin’ else. Football’s a tough game, lots of pressure, lots of folks watchin’. Not everyone can handle it, even if they got an arm like a cannon.
He’s not playin’ in the big leagues anymore, as far as I know. But he gave it a shot, and that’s more than most folks can say. He chased his dream, like a dog chasin’ a rabbit. Sometimes you catch the rabbit, sometimes you don’t. But you gotta keep runnin’ if you wanna have a chance.
Paxton Lynch, a football player. That’s what he was. And that’s how I’ll remember him. A fella who could throw a football real far, even if he didn’t always end up where he wanted to be. Just like life, sometimes things don’t go the way you plan. You just gotta pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and keep on goin’ down the road.
