Alright folks, let me tell you about this crazy thing I tried to pull off – recreating that infamous KPMG hat Phil Mickelson wore. Yeah, the one that caused all the drama. I figured, why not give it a shot? See if I could make my own.

First off, getting the right hat was key. I didn’t want some cheap knock-off looking thing. So, I hunted around online, checking out different golf apparel sites and even some custom hat makers. I ended up finding a pretty decent blank golf hat – the right color, the right style, seemed like a good starting point.
Next up, the logo. Now, I ain’t got some fancy embroidery machine sitting around. So, I had to get creative. I started by finding a high-resolution image of the KPMG logo online. Then, I messed around with it in Photoshop, cleaned it up, and resized it to what I thought would look right on the hat.
Printing the logo was the next hurdle. I considered iron-on transfers, but they usually look kinda cheap and crack easily. Then I thought, “Hey, what about those printable vinyl stickers?” So I bought a sheet of white printable vinyl sticker paper and printed the logo onto that. I carefully cut out the logo with a sharp craft knife, trying to get as clean of lines as possible.
Okay, here’s where things got a little tricky. Applying the sticker to the hat required some patience. I peeled off the backing and slowly, carefully, placed the logo on the front of the hat. I used my fingers to smooth it out, trying to avoid any bubbles or wrinkles. It wasn’t perfect, but it was looking pretty good! It was a bit shiny, but I figured I could deal with that.
To try and make the sticker blend in a bit more, I even tried lightly hitting it with a heat gun on a low setting, hoping it would sort of melt into the fabric. Honestly, I’m not sure if it did much, but it made me feel like I was doing something!

The final result? Well, it wasn’t exactly PGA Tour quality, haha. But it was definitely recognizable. I wore it out to the golf course a few times, and I got a few chuckles and a couple of “Hey, nice hat!” comments.
- Finding the right blank hat.
- Sourcing a high-res KPMG logo.
- Printing the logo onto vinyl sticker paper.
- Carefully cutting out the logo.
- Applying the sticker to the hat and smoothing it out.
Would I do it again? Maybe. It was a fun little project, and it definitely got some attention. Plus, it was a hell of a lot cheaper than trying to buy an official one (if you could even find one!). It was a fun experiment and now I’ve got a story to tell!
