Well now, let me tell ya somethin’ about this here “championship game crossword.” Sounds fancy, don’t it? Like somethin’ them city folk do. But it ain’t so hard, even an old woman like me can kinda understand it.
So, what is it? It’s like this here puzzle, see? You got these boxes, all lined up, and you gotta fill ’em in with words. Words, words, words! They give you clues, little hints, and you gotta figure out what word fits. It’s like guessin’, but with letters. They call it a “crossword” ’cause some words go across and some go down, makin’ a cross shape. And this “championship game” part? Well, that just means it’s gotta be somethin’ to do with big games, ya know, like the ones on TV with all the yellin’ and cheerin’.
I saw my grandkid doin’ one of these things once. Looked mighty complicated to me, all them little squares. But he said it ain’t so bad. Said you gotta look at the clue and think real hard. Sometimes the clue is easy, like “what’s the opposite of black?” Well, that’s white, plain as day. But sometimes them clues, they get tricky. They use big words, words I ain’t never heard of in all my born days. Like that one time, the clue was “ubiquitous.” Ubiquitous? What in tarnation is that? Turns out it just means somethin’ that’s everywhere. See? Fancy word for a simple thing.
- First, you gotta read the clues real careful.
- Then, you gotta think about what word fits.
- And then, you gotta write it in, make sure it fits with the other words too.
Now, they got these crosswords all over the place. My grandkid, he plays ’em on that little phone of his. Said you can find ’em on the internet, somethin’ called “USA Today” has ’em, and even that “New York Times” paper, the one them smart folks read. There’s even a fella named Stan, Stan somethin’, who makes these puzzles every day. Imagine that, makin’ puzzles for a livin’! Must be nice work, sittin’ around thinkin’ up tricky clues.
And you know what? They even got games that are kinda like crosswords, but not quite. Like that “Sudoku” thing. Numbers instead of letters. My grandkid tries to teach me, but I just can’t get the hang of it. Too many numbers, not enough words for my tastin’. I like words, even if I don’t always know what they mean. Words tell stories, ya know?
This “championship game crossword” thing, it’s all about words and thinkin’. And about games too, I guess. Big games, important games, the kind where folks get all worked up and holler at the TV. Maybe the clues are about football players, or basketball teams, or baseball bats. I don’t know much about them games, but I reckon I could figure out a few clues. If they ain’t too fancy, that is.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to do, somethin’ to keep your mind busy, maybe give this here crossword a try. It might be fun, even for an old gal like me. Or maybe not. Maybe I’ll just stick to watchin’ the flowers grow. That’s a puzzle too, in its own way. Tryin’ to figure out why some bloom and some don’t, why some are red and some are blue. Life’s full of puzzles, ain’t it? Big ones, small ones, crosswords and all.
And if you get stuck, don’t you worry none. Just ask someone, or look it up. Ain’t no shame in gettin’ a little help. Even them smart folks who make the crosswords, they gotta look things up sometimes, I betcha. We all do, in this big ol’ world full of words and games and things we don’t quite understand.
So there you have it. My take on this here “championship game crossword.” Not much, I know, but it’s honest. And that’s more than you can say for some folks these days.
