Alright, so I wanted to get a better handle on the Sam Houston Bearkats football team’s roster situation. You know, like, who’s playing where, who’s backing up who, that sort of thing. So I decided to dig into their depth chart.

First, I went looking for an official depth chart. You’d think the team’s website would have it, right? Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. It’s always a bit of a toss-up.
- I started by poking around the official Sam Houston State athletics site.
- I looked through the football section, checking the roster page, news articles, anything that might have a link to a depth chart.
Sometimes, if the official site doesn’t have it, you can find fan-made ones on forums or message boards. These can be hit or miss, but sometimes they’re pretty accurate, put together by people who really follow the team closely.
So, I checked out a couple of Sam Houston fan forums. I scrolled through some threads, used the search function to look for “depth chart” and related terms.
Another thing I did was look at recent game recaps and news articles. Sometimes, reporters will mention who started, who came in as a sub, and that can give you clues about the depth chart, even if they don’t publish the whole thing.
Putting it Together
After all that searching, it gets down to putting things in order. I began to organize it.

Then, I start piecing it together myself. I make a simple list, offense, defense, special teams. I start filling in the positions with the names I’ve seen, based on who’s been starting and playing the most.
It’s not always perfect, especially early in the season, but it gives you a good idea of the team’s lineup and who to watch for. It is also important to note that It’s a fluid thing, you know? Injuries happen, players get hot or cold, so the depth chart can change week to week. But this process gives me a good starting point!
