Alright, let’s gab about these two young fellas, Sam Howell and Trevor Lawrence. Folks keep yappin’ about ’em, so I figured I’d throw in my two cents, ya know? Don’t expect no fancy talk, I just call it like I see it.
First off, this Sam Howell fella. He’s with the Seattle Seahawks now, I hear. Seems like a strong young buck. They say he played for some college team, the North Carolina somethin’-or-others. Threw a whole heap of touchdowns, they say. Thirty-eight in one season? Land sakes, that’s a lot! Musta had an arm like a cannon. And all them yards he threw, too. More than anyone else at that school, ever. That’s gotta mean somethin’, right?
I seen on the TV where they said he was a starter even as a young’un in college. Beat some big teams, South Carolina and Miami, right off the bat. That’s pretty impressive, gotta say. Sounds like he’s got some grit, that one. Ain’t afraid to get in there and sling it. But then I also heard he threw a bunch of interceptions in one game. Four of ’em! Oh honey, that ain’t good. Gotta take care of that ball, son. Can’t be givin’ it away like that.
- Strong arm, throws lots of touchdowns.
- Broke records in college.
- Started as a freshman, beat good teams.
- But, throws too many interceptions sometimes.
Now, this Trevor Lawrence fella, he’s with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Heard he was a real big deal comin’ outta college, too. Clemson, I think it was. All the experts, they were ravin’ about him. Said he was gonna be the next big thing. A real “generational talent,” they called him. Fancy words, but what does it all mean?
He’s been in the NFL a bit longer than Howell, so we got more to look at. He’s had some good games, some bad games. That’s football, I guess. Up and down, like a yo-yo. He’s got a strong arm, too, can make all the throws. And he’s a big fella, hard to bring down. But sometimes, I dunno, he seems to make mistakes. Throws into coverage, holds onto the ball too long. Stuff like that. Still young, though. Plenty of time to learn, I reckon.
I saw him play a game last year, and he looked real good. Threw for a bunch of yards, made some smart plays. Then the next week, he looked lost out there. Couldn’t get nothin’ goin’. That’s the thing about these quarterbacks, they gotta be consistent. Can’t be good one week and bad the next. Gotta bring it every single game.
So, who’s better? Sam Howell or Trevor Lawrence? Well, shoot, that’s a tough one. Howell’s got the potential, that’s for sure. But he’s still kinda green. Needs to prove he can play at a high level week in and week out. And he gotta stop them interceptions, that’s for sure. Lawrence, he’s got more experience. He’s seen more, been through more. But he hasn’t quite lived up to all the hype, has he? Still got time, though. Still young.
I tell you what, it’s like comparing apples and oranges. They’re both quarterbacks, but they’re different. Howell’s like a wild stallion, full of energy and power. Lawrence is more like a steady plow horse, reliable and strong. Both can get the job done, just in different ways.
If I had to pick one, right now, today? Hmm… I guess I’d go with Lawrence. He’s been there longer, seen more. But Howell, he’s got somethin’ special. He could be real good, if he puts it all together. We’ll just have to wait and see, I reckon. That’s the fun of football, ain’t it? Never know what’s gonna happen.
Anyway, that’s my take on it. Just an old woman’s opinion. Take it or leave it, I don’t care. Just enjoy the football, that’s what I say. It’s a good game, keeps you on the edge of your seat. And that’s all that matters, right?
