Alright, so listen up, y’all. This thing happened with that golf fella, Scotty Scheffler, yeah, that’s the one. He’s been winnin’ all them golf games and makin’ a whole heap of money. Big money, I tell ya. They say he made like, sixty-two million dollars this year! Can you believe that? I sure can’t. My old man worked his whole life and didn’t see a tenth of that.
Anyways, this story ain’t about his money, though that’s a good chunk of change, ain’t it? It’s about this hat thing. See, some fella, probably one of them city slickers, asked Scotty to sign a hat. But not just any hat, mind you. It was one of them Boston Celtics hats. Basketball, you know? Now, I don’t know much about basketball, but I know Scotty, he’s a golfer. He ain’t no basketball player.
- So, this fella, he asks Scotty to sign this Celtics hat.
- And Scotty, he says, “No sir, I ain’t gonna sign that.”
- And that’s where the whole thing started, I reckon.
Now, some folks are sayin’ Scotty was rude. They say he shoulda just signed the hat and been done with it. But I tell ya, I understand where he’s comin’ from. You see, Scotty, he’s a loyal fella. He plays golf, and that’s his thing. He ain’t got no business signin’ basketball hats. It’s like askin’ a chicken to bark like a dog. It just don’t make no sense.
And let me tell ya somethin’ else, these fellas gettin’ paid all that money, they still gotta have some pride, ya know? It ain’t just about the money all the time. Scotty, he’s got his own brand, his own thing goin’ on. He don’t need to be signin’ hats for sports he ain’t even playin’. That’s just common sense, if you ask me.
He’s earned $29.2 million in prize money! Imagine that! I heard tell he even broke some kinda record last year, too. And then there’s all them bonuses. FedEx somethin’ or other, and somethin’ about Comcast. Sounds fancy, don’t it? All that money, and he’s still got the sense to say no to somethin’ he don’t believe in. Good for him, I say.
And that caddie of his, the fella that carries his clubs and such, he’s makin’ a pretty penny too, I hear. Millions, just from Scotty winnin’. Land sakes, that’s more money than most folks see in a lifetime. But still, it comes back to this hat thing. It ain’t about the money. It’s about stickin’ to your guns, doin’ what you think is right.
Now, some might say, “Oh, it’s just a hat, what’s the big deal?” But it ain’t just a hat, is it? It’s a symbol. It’s like sayin’ you stand for somethin’, even if it ain’t popular. And I respect that. I respect a man who knows what he believes in and ain’t afraid to say so. Even if it means turnin’ down a chance to make someone happy, or maybe even makin’ some folks mad.
Scotty finished off the year with a big win, the Tour Championship they called it. Seven wins in one year, they said. That’s a lot of winnin’, even for a fella as good as him. He’s a top golfer, that’s for sure. And I reckon that Celtics hat ain’t gonna change that one bit. He made the right call, if you ask me. Just stick to what ya know, that’s what I always say.
So, that’s the story, plain and simple. Scotty Scheffler, golf player, didn’t sign a basketball hat. And in my book, that’s just fine. He’s got his reasons, and that’s good enough for me. End of story.
