Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this whole Sepp Straka caddie situation. You know, trying to figure out how these two got together and what makes them work. It’s kind of a cool story, actually.
So, first off, I went digging around to see how this whole partnership started. Turns out, this guy Duane Bock, Straka’s current caddie, he used to work for Kevin Kisner. But Kisner decided to take a break from golf. Bock, needing a new gig, somehow ended up with Straka. I spent a whole afternoon just piecing that together from what others are saying online. And guess what? It’s been a pretty sweet deal for both of them.
Next, I tried to learn about what they’ve done together. Seems like under Bock’s guidance, Straka went ahead and won the John Deere Classic in the summer of 2023. That’s a pretty big deal! I’m not a huge golf expert, but even I know that winning a tournament is a serious accomplishment. I was pretty pumped when I found that out.
More Digging into the Past
Then, because I was on a roll, I dug even deeper. I started looking into the history of caddies, you know, way back. Turns out, one of the first named caddies was this dude Andrew Dickson. And get this, he later became a golf clubmaker! He was also the fore-caddie for the Duke of York back in 1681. How crazy is that? I found this tidbit in some old golf book called “Fore!” I think. I spent a good few hours reading up on this stuff. It’s wild to think about how the role of a caddie has changed over the centuries.
On another day, I decided to check out what gear Straka uses. I’m not really a gearhead, but I figured it might be important. He’s got this putter, an Odyssey Stroke Lab Tuttle, which has a kind of funky crescent shape. It’s pretty easy to spot. I watched a bunch of videos of him playing just to get a good look at it. He also switched up his driver this year. Earlier in 2024, he was using a TaylorMade Qi10 LS. That took me a while to figure out, but I finally got it.
Final Touches
Finally, I listened to this podcast where Straka talked about how he found Bock. It was on GOLF’s Subpar, I think. He also mentioned who helped make their partnership a long-term thing. That was a nice little detail to uncover. It really tied everything together.
So yeah, that’s basically what I’ve been up to. Trying to get the full scoop on Sepp Straka and his caddie, Duane Bock. It’s been a fun little project, and I feel like I’ve learned a ton along the way. Maybe next time I’ll figure out the history of golf balls or something, who knows.
