Man, let me tell you about this little experiment I did today. I got it in my head that I wanted to really understand what this whole Steven Adams wingspan thing was about. You know, the basketball player? Dude’s got arms for days, I heard.
So, first, I hit up the internet. Just typed in “Steven Adams wingspan” and bam! A whole bunch of stuff popped up. Turns out, this guy’s wingspan is 7 feet 4.5 inches. That’s insane! Most of the stuff I found was just stats, like his points per game, rebounds, blocks, all that jazz. He’s apparently 6’11” and plays center for the Houston Rockets now, used to play for Oklahoma.
Then, I started digging a bit deeper. Wanted to see what this wingspan meant in action, you know? I found this one article talking about how he keeps both feet on the ground and uses a wide base when he’s playing. Makes sense, right? Gotta have a solid foundation when you’re that big and have those long arms, to not topple over.
And get this – I read that he’s known as one of the strongest players in the NBA! Apparently, he can just pick other players up like it’s nothing. I watched some videos online. There was this one clip where he just casually lifted another player who was falling over. Dude, my jaw dropped. It was something. I couldn’t believe that. I tried to pick up my friend once. That didn’t work out so well.
There’s also some talk about his vertical leap being 33 inches. Not too shabby for a big guy. I tried to measure my vertical leap once, but I think I messed up somewhere because the number I got was way too low. I used the wall to touch and then jumped. It was not so successful but I got some ideas from Steven’s leap!
Anyway, I spent a good chunk of my day just diving into this Steven Adams rabbit hole. It’s crazy how much information is out there. And it’s wild to think about how this one physical attribute – his wingspan – can have such a big impact on his game. He’s a force to be reckoned with, that’s for sure. I even tried to stand like him with my feet apart. It was funny. I looked like him but shorter of course.
Here’s what I did to really get a feel for it:
- Stood up and spread my arms out as wide as I could.
- Tried to imagine having another foot or so of reach.
- Walked around my apartment pretending to block shots and grab rebounds.
Honestly, it was a pretty fun way to spend an afternoon. I may not have a 7-foot wingspan, but I definitely have a new appreciation for Steven Adams and the way he plays the game. And I felt a little bit taller for a few hours, which was a nice bonus.
