Okay, so let’s talk about this “Sword of Convallaria” game I’ve been messing around with. I’m a big fan of messing with voiceovers in games, always switching them to Japanese when I can. And this game is no different.
So, I dug into the game after hearing some chatter online about the voices. Found out there’s a bunch of Chinese voice actors in there too. Apparently, the people behind the scenes, they did the casting and recording, listed a few names like Sayumi Suzushiro, Ami Koshimizu, and Misaki Kuno. Nice. But, what caught my attention was this character, Kuro, and getting his Japanese voice right.
Here’s what I did:
- First, I started the game and poked around the settings. Nothing about language options there, oh well, it happens a lot in games nowadays.
- Then I saw some folks online talking about a demo, maybe the demo had different voice options? Nope, I saw somewhere that it would have a Japanese voice-over.
- Next, I tried to see if there was some kind of a config file or something I could edit to get at those voice files. No luck.
- I even went to the folder where the game was installed, hoping to find some audio files I could switch around. But they were all packaged up in a way I couldn’t easily mess with.
Then, after digging around some more, I found out that the Japanese voice for Kuro is done by Miyuki Sato. Apparently, she also voiced young Noctis in Final Fantasy XV. Cool, cool.
After a little more searching, I found out some information about another voice actor named Kaito Ishikawa. He’s in a bunch of stuff I know, like Devil May Cry, One Punch Man, and My Hero Academia. Wild.
So, while I couldn’t change the voices in the game as easily as I hoped, I did find out who did the voice for Kuro in Japanese, Miyuki Sato. And I learned a bit more about another voice actor, Kaito Ishikawa, who’s in a ton of stuff I like.
I’m still going to keep digging to see if there’s a way to get more of that Japanese voice acting in my game, though. Maybe I’ll check out some mods, or maybe the developers will add more language options in the future.
