Okay, so today I tried to make “sybi kuchar”. It’s a kind of traditional dish, you know. I saw it online and thought, “Why not give it a shot?”
First things first, I gathered all the stuff I needed. I didn’t even know what half of this stuff was, had to look it up. I went to the local market to grab some fresh vegetables and spices. I remember grabbing some onions, carrots, and I think it was called cilantro? Never used that before.
Then, I chopped everything up. My knife skills are, well, let’s just say I’m no chef. Took me a while, but I managed to get everything in somewhat similar sizes. I also had to grind some spices. I used a mortar and pestle, felt like an ancient medicine man or something.
Next, heating up the oil in a big pot. I tossed in the onions first, let them cook until they were kind of golden. Then, I added the other vegetables and let them simmer for a bit. The smell was starting to get really good at this point. My stomach started growling, had to resist the urge to just eat the veggies raw.
- Mixing in the spices was the next step. I carefully measured out the amounts, didn’t want to mess up the flavor. It was a mix of turmeric, cumin, and that cilantro I got.
- After that, it was time to add the meat. It was lamb, I think. I let it brown and soak up all those spicy flavors.
- Finally, covered the pot and let it all cook together for a good long time. I think it was about two hours? I lost track, was busy cleaning up the mess I made.
When it was done, I scooped some out and took a bite. Honestly, it wasn’t half bad! A little spicy, but the flavors all blended together really well. It was definitely a success, considering it was my first time making it.
The result
I’m pretty proud of myself for trying something new. And it was surprisingly tasty! I might even try making it again sometime. Maybe I’ll even get better at chopping vegetables.
