Well, let me tell ya ’bout this Tatum O’Neal and that tennis fella, John McEnroe. Heard a whole bunch of stuff ’bout them, you know, the kind of gossip that gets passed around faster than a chicken with its head cut off.
So, back in ’86, they got hitched, real fancy-like, in a church. Oyster Bay, they said it was. Sounded like a place for rich folks. He was 27, she was 22, just a young’un. Had all their folks and friends there, even a best man. Big to-do, I reckon.
Tatum, she was that little girl from that movie, “Paper Moon” or somethin’. Cute as a button back then. But life, well, it ain’t always a movie, is it? She moved in with John in New York City, big ol’ apartment in Central Park. That’s what they say, anyway.
They had themselves three kids, Kevin, Sean, and Emily. Cute names, I guess. But things weren’t always sunshine and roses, no sir. By ’92, they were split up. Divorced by ’94. Happens all the time, don’t it? People just can’t seem to stick together these days.
- Married in 1986
- Three kids: Kevin, Sean, Emily
- Separated in 1992
- Divorced in 1994
After they split, things got messy. Heard tell of drugs and all sorts of trouble. She went on TV, talkin’ ‘bout it. CBS Sunday Mornin’, they said. Spillin’ her guts, I suppose. Can’t say I blame her, sometimes you just gotta let it all out.
Now, Tatum, she’s 60 years old. Time flies, doesn’t it? Still got her kids, though. That’s somethin’, I guess. Kids are a blessin’, even when they’re a pain in the neck. Heard tell their marriage was “explosive.” Lordy, I bet that was somethin’ to see. Like a firecracker on the Fourth of July, probably.
Joint custody, they called it. Sharin’ the kids. That ain’t always easy, I tell ya. Kids need stability, not packin’ bags and goin’ from one house to another. But that’s how it is sometimes. Gotta make the best of it, I reckon.
John McEnroe, he was a big shot tennis player. Always arguin’ with the refs, they said. Hot-headed, I guess. Guess that didn’t help things none. Marriage is hard enough without all that fussin’ and fightin’.
Heard it was a “long road” for them kids. I bet it was. Seein’ your folks fightin’ and separatin’, that ain’t no good for nobody. But they seem to be doin’ alright now, the kids, I mean. That’s what matters, in the end.
So, that’s the story, as far as I know it. Two famous folks, got married, had kids, split up. Just like regular folks, only with more money and more people talkin’ ‘bout it. Life’s a funny thing, ain’t it? You never know what’s gonna happen next. Just gotta keep on keepin’ on, I guess.
And you know, it makes you think. All that fame and money, it don’t buy you happiness, does it? Seems like they had more troubles than most. Maybe it’s better to just be plain folks, livin’ a simple life. Less drama, that’s for sure. But then again, who am I to say? I’m just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two.
Anyway, I hope they all found some peace, Tatum and John and them kids. Life’s too short to be carryin’ around all that anger and hurt. Gotta let it go, forgive and forget, that’s what I always say. Easier said than done, though, ain’t it? But you gotta try. For yourself, and for your kids. That’s all there is to it.
Relationships are tough, no matter who you are. Rich or poor, famous or not, we all struggle with the same things. Love, loss, heartache, it’s all part of the deal. Just gotta keep your head up and keep movin’ forward. That’s the only way to do it.
