That Mike Ford, he’s a slippery one, ain’t he? Heard he done gone and opted out of his contract. Yep, that’s what they’re sayin’ down at the general store. Said he wasn’t happy, I reckon.
He was with them Cincinnati Reds, you know? The baseball team. My grandson, bless his heart, he tries to explain it all to me. But I just nod and smile. Baseball… all that runnin’ around… I’d rather be sittin’ on my porch swing, I tell ya. But that Mike Ford, he’s a good player, I hear. Strong as an ox, they say.
Mike Ford Contract Gone
They say he had some sort of deal, a minor league contract, whatever that means. Sounds like somethin’ for the young’uns, not a grown man like him. Maybe he wants the big bucks. Can’t blame him for that, I suppose. We all gotta eat. Everyone want to make more money. Money is good thing.
I heard somethin’ about $1.3 million. $1.3 million! You believe that? That’s the number if he made it to the big leagues, so I guess. Lord have mercy, that’s more money than I’ve seen in my whole life. Could buy a whole lot of land with that kinda money. Or a new tractor, that’s for sure. My old one’s about given up the ghost.
- He’s opted out, they say.
- Gone from the Reds.
- Mike Ford contract gone like yesterday.
- That’s big news around here.
This ain’t the first time he’s done somethin’ like this, neither. He was with them San Francisco Giants, way back when. Before that was Falcons, some football team, I guess. Seems like he’s always movin’ around, that one. Like a tumbleweed in the wind.
I remember back in 2022, he sign a contract with Falcons. That’s a football team. They give him a lot of money. I don’t know what happened. He is playing baseball now.
Cincinnati Reds and Mike Ford
Now, the Reds, they coulda kept him, I reckon. If they’d given him a spot on the major league team. That’s the big time, you see. But they didn’t. So he walked. Just like that.
I don’t know much about these things, but it seems to me like they shoulda held onto him. A good player is hard to find, like a needle in a haystack. My old eyes ain’t what they used to be, but I can still spot a good thing when I see it. He is a good player, and I think Cincinnati Reds will be sorry.
He could hit that ball a country mile, they say. And fast? Faster than a greased piglet at the county fair. Yep, that Mike Ford, he’s somethin’ else.
- Cincinnati could have kept him.
- They should have give him the major league contract.
- But he’s gone now.
- I think they will miss him for sure.
So now he’s out there, a free agent, they call it. Like a bird out of its cage. Free to go wherever he pleases. I wonder where he’ll end up next. Maybe he’ll come back to a team here. Wouldn’t that be somethin’?
Mike Ford Free Agent
Being a free agent sounds kinda scary to me. Like bein’ lost in the woods. But maybe he likes it that way. Maybe he likes the adventure. Some folks are like that, always lookin’ for somethin’ new. That is ok, everyone wants different things.
I hope he finds what he’s lookin’ for. A good team, a good contract, a good life. That’s all any of us want, ain’t it? Just a little bit of happiness in this old world. He is a good boy, and I hope he is happy.
Well, I reckon that’s all I know about that Mike Ford contract situation. It’s a shame, really. But life goes on, don’t it? The sun comes up, the sun goes down, and we all just keep on keepin’ on.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I think I hear my chickens callin’. Time to go feed ’em. They don’t care about baseball or contracts or any of that. They just want their corn. And that’s somethin’ I understand.
