Alright, let’s talk about this Dwight Freeney fella, the football player. Heard they’re puttin’ him in some kinda “Hall of Fame.” Sounds fancy, like somethin’ they do for them city folk. But this Dwight, he was fast. Real fast. They say he ran that 40-yard thingy in 4.38 seconds. That’s quicker than a jackrabbit, I tell ya. Faster than my old rooster chasin’ a hen!
Now, I ain’t no football expert. Never watched a whole game in my life. Too busy workin’ the farm, feedin’ the chickens, and makin’ sure the cows don’t wander off. But even I know that runnin’ fast is a big deal in football. Especially if you’re a big fella like Dwight. See, he wasn’t no little skinny fella. He was a strong one, a defensive end they called him. That means he’s supposed to be knockin’ people down, not runnin’ like the wind.
- Speedy fella, that Dwight.
- Strong as an ox, too.
- Played that football game real good.
They say he played for 16 years! That’s a long time doin’ anything. Imagine workin’ in the fields for 16 years straight! My back would be broke in two. But Dwight, he kept goin’. He even won a Super Bowl, whatever that is. Sounds like a big ol’ trophy. Must’ve been shiny.
This Syracuse place, where he went to college, they’re real proud of him. Seems he was sackin’ quarterbacks left and right. Seventeen and a half sacks, they say. That’s a lot of sacks! More sacks than I got potatoes in my cellar last winter. And even after all these years, he still goes back there, helpin’ out the young fellas. That’s good, real good. Shows he remembers where he come from.
He was a pioneer, some folks say. Changed the way them football players eat and exercise. Now, I don’t know nothin’ about fancy diets. My diet is whatever comes out of the garden and whatever eggs the hens lay. But I guess Dwight was doin’ somethin’ different, somethin’ special. Kept him strong and fast, even when he got older.
And that speed, that 4.38 forty time, that’s what everyone remembers. That’s what got him noticed. Made him a star. A fast fella in a big fella’s body. That’s somethin’ special, alright. Like a racehorse pullin’ a plow. You just don’t see that every day.
So, good for Dwight. He worked hard, ran fast, and now they’re puttin’ him in that Hall of Fame. He deserves it, I reckon. He showed the world that even big fellas can be fast. And that’s a lesson for all of us, ain’t it? Don’t matter how big or small you are, if you work hard and have a little speed, you can do somethin’ great.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed them chickens. They’re squawkin’ somethin’ fierce. Probably hungry. Just like them football players after a big game, I bet.
