Okay, so I decided to finally sit down and make my own Black Clover tier list the other day. Seen a bunch online, and honestly, I just wanted to get my own thoughts straight on where everyone stacks up. It’s kinda fun to rank stuff you enjoy, right?

Getting Started
First thing I did was just kinda brainstorm the characters. You know, the main players, the captains, some key villains. My memory’s decent, but Black Clover has a ton of characters, so I did pull up a character list online just to make sure I wasn’t forgetting someone obvious. Didn’t want to finish the list and then realize I forgot, like, half the Black Bulls or something.
Then I needed to figure out the tiers themselves. I just went with the classic S, A, B, C, D setup. Kept it simple. S is for the absolute monsters, the top dogs. A is really strong, B is solid, C is kinda average or situational, and D is… well, D. You get the idea. I wasn’t trying to reinvent the wheel here, just needed some basic buckets to sort everyone into.
The Ranking Process
Alright, this was the main part. I decided to use one of those online tier list maker tools. They usually have templates with images already, which saves a lot of hassle. Found one specifically for Black Clover, perfect.
So I started dragging and dropping. Some were easy calls. Asta and Yuno? Straight to S tier, no question. Their power levels are just off the charts, especially later on. Julius too, obviously S tier material before… well, you know.
But then it got trickier. Take the captains. Yami, definitely super strong, felt like an S tier to me. Mereoleona? Oh yeah, S tier, maybe even top of S. That woman’s terrifyingly powerful. But then you have someone like Fuegoleon or Nozel. Both are incredibly strong, high A tier for sure, maybe pushing S? I shuffled them around a bit. Decided to keep them in high A, maybe S- depending on how you look at it.

Then there were characters whose power levels fluctuate or depend heavily on the situation. Noelle started off weaker but her growth is insane. Where do you place her? I put her pretty high up, definitely A tier, based on her later capabilities. Charmy was another funny one. Normal Charmy is one thing, but her other form? That’s a different beast entirely. Had to decide which version I was primarily ranking, or just place her based on her peak potential.
- Figuring out the support characters was tough too. Like, Finral is crucial for mobility, but ranking him based purely on combat power? He’d be lower.
- Had to think about villains too. The Dark Triad members were mostly easy S tiers. Zagred? S tier.
- Some characters just ended up in B or C tier because while they’re competent Magic Knights, they just don’t compare to the crazy power levels at the top. And that’s fine!
Final Adjustments
Once I had everyone placed, I took a step back and looked at the whole thing. Did it feel right? I actually moved a couple of characters up or down a tier after thinking about specific fights or feats. Like, I initially had Jack the Ripper a bit lower, but then I remembered some of his fights and bumped him up into A tier. You kinda have to review it, let it sit for a minute.
It’s tough because power scaling can get weird, and matchups matter a lot in Black Clover. But I was aiming for a general ‘overall power and impact’ kind of ranking.
Wrapping Up
So yeah, that was pretty much it. Spent maybe an hour or so fiddling with it until I felt it represented my current view pretty well. It’s totally subjective, of course. Someone else could have wildly different placements, and that’s cool. For me, it was just a satisfying way to organize my thoughts on the series and its awesome characters. Just a bit of fun, putting my own spin on the rankings I’ve seen around.
