Okay, so I wanted to talk about trying out one of those BG3 builder sites the other day.

Honestly, starting Baldur’s Gate 3, I was kinda swamped. You know how it is, tons of races, classes, spells… my head was spinning a bit trying to figure out what to even pick. Heard some folks talking online about using websites to plan builds out beforehand, so I thought, why not give it a shot?
Fired up my browser and searched around. Found one that seemed popular, didn’t look too complicated at first glance. Loaded it up.
Getting Started with the Basics
First thing was picking a race and background, standard stuff. I messed around with a few options, Half-Elf, Human, the usual suspects. Then came the class choice. This is where these sites actually start to show their worth.
I remembered reading somewhere that a simple Fighter is a good way to start, easy to understand. So, I clicked that. The site updated, showed me the starting skills, proficiencies, all that jazz. Okay, cool.
Then I saw the level-up buttons. That’s the main reason I was there, right? To see how things progress without spending hours in the actual game respeccing.

Playing with Levels and Multiclassing
Clicked level 2, then 3. Got to see the subclass options pop up. Battle Master? Champion? Read the little descriptions they had. Then pushed it further, level 4, got the feat selection. It was neat seeing it all laid out.
But then I got curious. People talk a lot about multiclassing. What if I didn’t stick with just Fighter? I saw options to add another class.
- Tried adding a few levels of Warlock. Heard that Pact of the Blade thing could be strong, maybe with heavy armor if you start right? Like a Cleric or Fighter first?
- Clicked around, switched the starting class to Cleric, added Warlock. Then reset and tried Fighter first, then Warlock levels. Seeing how the stats and abilities shifted was pretty useful.
- Messed with a pure Wizard too, just to see the spell progression laid out level by level.
It lets you allocate stats, pick spells for each level, choose feats. You can really get into the weeds if you want to.
What I Reckon About It
Spent a good while just clicking through different combinations. It’s kinda like a sandbox for your character idea. Does it perfectly replicate the game? Nah, not exactly. Like, the character appearance stuff is super basic, even more basic than the actual game sometimes – just a few icons or generic descriptions, not like you’re really building your character’s looks.
And sometimes the interface felt a bit clunky, you know? Clicking back and forth. But still, it helped.

Did I find the ultimate, unbeatable build? Probably not. But did I get a much clearer picture of how different classes mix and what options I’d have at later levels? Definitely.
It made going back into the game and actually creating my character, or thinking about respeccing my current one, feel way less daunting. I had a roadmap, sort of. Knew what I was aiming for.
So yeah, using a builder site? Pretty decent experience. Good for scratching that theorycrafting itch without committing hours in-game first. Helped me get my head straight before jumping back into Faerûn.
