My Process: Picking Between Tua and Trevor
Alright, so I found myself in a bit of a spot with my fantasy team quarterback situation. It really boiled down to two main guys I was looking at: Tua Tagovailoa down in Miami or Trevor Lawrence over in Jacksonville. Both young guys, both got some potential, but man, picking between them wasn’t straightforward.

First thing I did, I just kinda sat back and thought about last season. Tua, when he was healthy and upright, that offense looked like lightning. Those connections with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle were something else, putting up huge numbers some weeks. But then, you gotta remember the hits he took. Those concussions were serious, and that worried me quite a bit. Durability became a big question mark hanging over his head.
Then I shifted my focus to Trevor Lawrence. He definitely had moments where he looked like that generational talent everyone talked about coming out of college. That comeback in the playoffs? Incredible. But there were also games where the Jags offense just sputtered, looked inconsistent. He got Calvin Ridley this year, which is a big plus, adding to Christian Kirk and Evan Engram. Seems like they’re trying to build something solid around him.
Weighing the Options
So, I started listing things out, just mentally at first, then kinda scribbled some notes.
- Tua’s Upside: Potentially league-winning weeks if that offense clicks and he stays healthy. Those weapons are elite.
- Tua’s Downside: The huge injury risk. One bad hit and he could be out for weeks, or worse.
- Trevor’s Upside: Seen as maybe having a higher floor week-to-week? Potential for a big step forward in year three, especially with Ridley. Good rushing ability too, sometimes.
- Trevor’s Downside: Still prone to some shaky games. Is the consistency really going to be there all season?
I spent a good chunk of time just mulling it over. Looked at their schedules, thought about the divisions they play in. Flipped back and forth. One minute I was convinced Tua’s ceiling was too high to pass up, the next I was thinking Lawrence felt like the safer, steadier play who could still pop off.
Making the Call
It wasn’t easy. Honestly, both guys have arguments for and against them. You look at the stats, you look at the situation, you try to get a feel for it.

In the end, I just had to pull the trigger based on my gut feeling at that moment. I decided to go with Trevor Lawrence. It felt like maybe, just maybe, the path to consistent production was a bit clearer there, even if the absolute ceiling might not be quite as high as a perfectly healthy Tua in that Miami system. The injury history with Tua just kept nagging at me. Felt like Lawrence offered a blend of safety and potential upside that I was more comfortable banking on for the long haul of the season.
We’ll see how it goes, right? That’s fantasy football. You do your homework, you trust your gut, and then you hope for the best come Sunday. Hoping Trevor makes me look smart this year.
