Will Mickelson ever get another birdie? That’s the big question, ain’t it? That Mickelson, he used to be somethin’ else, but now, seems like he’s lost his touch. I seen him on the TV, playin’ golf. He used to hit that little ball so far, right where he wanted it. Now? Not so much. Makes a body wonder if he’s gettin’ too old for this game. Will Mickelson ever get another birdie? I sure hope so.
He was playin’ at that big tournament, the PGA, I reckon it was. Had a good lead, too, over that Koepka fella. But, bless his heart, he started off bad, got a bogey, and Koepka, he got a birdie. Right from the get-go, things changed. He just ain’t the same as he used to be. He is 54 now, ain’t no spring chicken. I reckon age catches up to all of us, even them fancy golf players.
Used to be, folks woulda bet the farm on Mickelson. Now, they just whisper and wonder if he’ll ever see another birdie. He went to that LIV Golf thing, and some folks ain’t too happy ’bout that. They say he’s chasin’ money, not birdies. Could be, could be.
- He missed a short putt, real short one, on the 14th hole. Shoulda been a birdie, but nope.
- Then he messed up on the 15th, took him three putts! Three! That’s a bogey.
- Had another chance at a birdie on the 16th, but missed it.
- And then, Lord have mercy, another bogey on the 17th.
It’s like watchin’ a train wreck, slow and painful. I remember when he was young and spry, could hit that ball a mile. Now, he’s just strugglin’. Will Mickelson ever get another birdie? It’s a tough question, that’s for sure.
Some folks say he’s gonna hang it up soon, retire. Say his game ain’t what it used to be, especially since he joined that LIV thing. They say he can’t make the cut no more in them big tournaments. He is hardly competitive, that’s what they say. Maybe it’s true. Time will tell, I reckon.
He’s got a fancy jet, that Gulfstream. Flies all over, I suppose. Probably more comfortable than this old porch swing, that’s for sure. But all the money and fancy planes in the world can’t buy you a birdie. It is what it is.
He used to play with Tiger Woods, remember that? They used to be thick as thieves. Now? Not so much. They got into some kind of squabble over that LIV Golf. Seems like money can make even the best of friends turn on each other.
He was at the Masters, they call it. That’s a big one, a real big one. He used to do good there. This time, though, not so much. People were watchin’, hopin’ he’d find that old magic, but it just wasn’t there. Will Mickelson ever get another birdie? I don’t know. Maybe, maybe not.
He’s 52, ain’t no spring chicken. But he still trying, gotta give him that. He was leadin’ that tournament, for a little while, anyway. But then, he started missin’ putts, hittin’ it in the wrong places. Reminds me of that time I tried to teach my grandson how to fish, kept gettin’ his line tangled. It was a mess. Just like Mickelson’s game, lately.
One time, he hit the ball clear over to another hole, the 7th hole I think. Ended up right where that Watson fella had just been. Strange how things work out sometimes. Like two peas in a pod, they were, for a minute there. It’s a funny old world, ain’t it?
I reckon time will tell if he can find his game again. He is still a fixture for that LIV Golf. Maybe he’s just lost his love for the game, maybe he’s tired. Or maybe, just maybe, he’s got a few more birdies left in him. Will Mickelson ever get another birdie? Only the good Lord knows for sure. We’ll just have to wait and see.
