Okay, so, the other day I was digging around for some cool sports stats, ’cause, you know, that’s what I do in my free time. I stumbled upon Derrick Henry’s high school football records, and let me tell you, my jaw just dropped.
First, I started by just typing his name and “high school stats” into Google. Boom. Right there, first page, tons of articles and forum posts about this guy. Apparently, he was a total beast even back then. I mean, we all know he’s a monster in the NFL, but high school? He was a whole other level.
- I found this one tweet, had a picture of his stats, man, they are insane.
- Then I saw this other post where someone was arguing that he must have only played against weak teams. Can you believe that?
- And get this, I read somewhere that he didn’t just run the ball, he also had two passing touchdowns, five sacks on defense. This dude was all over the field!
I kept digging, reading more and more. Found out he set a Florida high school record with a 510-yard game! And as a senior, he averaged over 300 yards per game. That’s just crazy. He finished that season with 4,261 yards and 55 touchdowns.
Also, I learned that he had one sister and two brothers. I’m not sure why that stood out to me, but I just found that interesting. He was born in 1988, which makes him not that old.
But here’s the thing that really got me: he apparently found public speaking to be more challenging than playing football. Can you imagine that? This guy’s a tank on the field, but talking in front of people? That’s his real challenge. His GPA was above 3.0. He even said that one of his monologues, on why he thought college athletes should be paid, earned him one of his highest grades.
I spent hours going through all this stuff. His regular season stats with 1,921 rushing yards, 16 rushing TDs. It’s just wild how good this guy is. They said he is the first RB in NFL history to rush for 1,900 or more yards in 2 different seasons.
My Conclusion
It’s like, you see these pro athletes, and you think they were always destined for greatness. But seeing Derrick Henry’s high school stats, it just makes you realize how much work and dedication it takes to get to that level. It’s not just talent, it’s a whole different level of commitment.
Anyway, I just wanted to share this with you guys. It’s not every day you come across someone with such insane stats, even in high school. It really makes you appreciate the journey these athletes go through.
